Lee Hwa-young received 454 visits over 16 months in detention
Lee Hwa-young, former vice governor for peace affairs of Gyeonggi Province, received external visits nearly once a day on average over the 16 months following the launch of the Lee Jae-myung government, it was revealed on the 8th. According to data from the Ministry of Justice obtained by the office of Rep. Joo Jin-woo of the People Power Party on the 8th, the former vice governor received a total of 454 visits from June 2025, when the government took office, through September of this year.
The breakdown shows that meetings with her attorneys were the most frequent at 353, followed by 81 general visits and 20 visits involving a change of location.
Democratic Party Rep. Song Young-gil said on social media that he met the former vice governor at Suwon Detention Center on the 23rd of last month and "heard about the investigation into the manipulation of the special prosecutor's probe into remittances to North Korea."
During the same period, the former vice governor exchanged a total of 172 pieces of correspondence (21 outgoing, 151 incoming).
