President Lee rebuts conspiracy theories of a revision for re-election
President Lee Jae-myung shared a post on X on the 15th, saying, "You may set aside the theory of a constitutional revision aimed at re-election or conspiracy theories of a revision for political restructuring." He rebutted the conspiracy theories by noting that a constitutional revision requires the consent of at least 200 National Assembly members, including those from the People Power Party, and therefore cannot be pursued single-handedly. At a press conference on the 18th of last month, President Lee stated, "I have no intention of seeking a second term." Citing the fact that a revision requires the consent of at least 200 assembly members, including those from the People Power Party, he explained, "I cannot do as I please." He added, "A parliamentary system (a system in which the National Assembly's administrative head, the prime minister, handles government affairs) or a dual executive system (a system in which the president and prime minister share authority), which are concerns, are not my preferred direction for constitutional revision either."
President Lee said, "Reforms are being carried out even faster than promised, and in just over a year we have achieved many results." He acknowledged, "In fact, so many reform tasks have been implemented all at once that some point to reform overload or reform fatigue." He continued, "If there are reforms that fall short, please point out the specific tasks, and I will implement them swiftly to the extent of my capacity."
President Lee said, "I am the biggest victim of the previous administration and the lawless partisan prosecution." He added, "Investigation and indictment are essential functions for maintaining social order, and organizations for investigation and indictment are necessary." He said, "The problem lies with certain tainted prosecutors, not with all of them; there are also prosecutors who devote themselves selflessly to the people and the nation."
President Lee stated, "We have stripped 100 percent of the investigative authority from prosecutors and separated the investigation and indictment functions, placing them in separate agencies so they check each other." He added, "The key task now is to make this system function properly."
