Yoo Seung-min: "If there's a role for me, I'll step forward without any calculation"
Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min of the People Power Party said on YTN Radio on the 26th that next year's party convention is important, stating, "If any role is needed, I will step forward without calculation."
Yoo described the April 2028 general election as one that will determine the fate of conservatism and the nation, noting that the party must win 60 to 70 seats in the Seoul metropolitan area to surpass 150 seats—and that 160 or even 170 seats are possible—something it has failed to achieve over the past decade. "I really want to make that happen," he said. Asked about his intention to run in the next presidential election, Yoo drew the line, saying, "A presidential run is not on my mind at all right now," and reiterated that his first priority is contributing to the party in whatever role he can to secure victory in the general election.
Presenting conservative unity as a way to win the general election, Yoo said, "Consider uniting everyone, from Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk to Lee Jun-seok and Han Dong-hoon. It would be very difficult, but it must be done." Asked whether Chairman Jang was also a target of the alliance, he replied, "We all need to go together." He added that mutual criticism or attacks that could hinder unity should be restrained.
Regarding Representative Han Dong-hoon's return to the People Power Party, Yoo said the sooner the better, but since it is realistically difficult under the current Jang Dong-hyuk leadership, the next party convention is all the more important. While noting he had met Han only once, a year ago, and does not know him personally, Yoo assessed that Han has excellent qualities and would be a great asset to the party.
Yoo also added that Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon's acquittal in the appeals trial would help expand the conservative base and contribute to victory in the general election.
