Spotlight on everyday AI harms and the race to develop nuclear-powered spacecraft
Everyday AI harms are being neglected. MIT Technology Review's newsletter "The Download" (October 26, 2026) shed light on this issue.
An article written by Sam Hiner, co-founder of the Young People's Alliance, and Emma Rackon, managing director of the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund at Hoplab, pointed out that AI safety discussions that focus only on major incidents are missing everyday harms. One in three teenagers was found to choose AI companions, rather than other people, to discuss serious problems with.
The same newsletter also highlighted the race to develop nuclear-powered spacecraft. NASA announced earlier this year plans to build "Space Reactor-1 Freedom," the first reactor-powered interstellar spacecraft, saying it would send it to Mars by the end of 2028. The project involves $2 billion in funding.
