Na Kyung-won: "Failures of the Lee Jae-myung government are laying bare the achievements of the Lee Myung-bak administration"
Rep. Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party for 'freeloading' on the achievements of conservative governments, arguing that the failures of the Lee Jae-myung administration have made the accomplishments of the conservative government under former President Lee Myung-bak all the more evident. In a Facebook post on September 27, she claimed that the public sentiment she encountered in and around her district during the Chuseok holiday was 'anger on the verge of explosion,' asserting that the prevailing mood calls for ousting President Lee Jae-myung.
Rep. Na pointed to what she called the arrogance of a president 'with no regard for the people, only watchfulness toward North Korea,' saying that for President Lee Jae-myung, "there are no citizens — only kowtowing to Pyongyang and political self-interest." She added that with a twist on the phrase 'reaping what one sows,' the president now faces 'self-inflicted detonation,' saying he cannot escape the consequences he has brought upon himself, and that "the people must hold him to account."
She criticized the administration's record: "Runaway inflation, a real estate disaster, lending regulations, tax bombs, the ETF stock debacle, a blanket farmland survey — and now DMZ landmine injuries to our soldiers. Both the economy and security have become a 'minefield for livelihoods and national defense.'" She also referenced what she described as the historical distortion in the film(s) 'The Assassin,' carried out, she claimed, with the administration's tacit approval.
Marking Chuseok on the 24th, Rep. Na paid a visit to former President Lee Myung-bak, arguing that "as the policy failures, hypocrisy, and contradictions of the Lee Jae-myung Democratic administration are exposed one by one, the foresight and achievements of President Lee Myung-bak and the conservative government grow ever clearer in history." She went on: "The Democratic Party, which tore down the Four Major Rivers weirs and sought to wreck the nuclear power ecosystem, now touts megaprojects and lectures about national industrial development and balanced regional growth," adding that the party "is busy freeloading on — and demolishing for its own gain — the achievements secured by conservative governments."
Rep. Na said she would "keep in mind the former president's words of concern for the country and the party, and press forward with renewed resolve." Her remarks are expected to influence the momentum within the opposition for holding the administration accountable, as well as the rallying mood in conservative circles following the local elections.
