Court Rules Allegations of Lee Jae-myung's Links to Seongnam International Mafia Group False
The production team of SBS's 'Unanswered Questions' has apologized, confirming that allegations of involvement between then-Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung and the Seongnam International Mafia group were legally unfounded. 'Unanswered Questions' had raised suspicions of involvement in a broadcast on July 21, 2018, reporting that Lee Jae-myung, then Gyeonggi Governor, was included in the list of lawyers for two members of the Seongnam International Mafia group in 2007.
The Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province forwarded the case to prosecutors with a non-indictment recommendation in November 2018, and the Seongnam District Prosecutor's Office decided not to indict in December 2018. On March 12, the Supreme Court finalized a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years for a lawyer who claimed Lee Jae-myung received money from the International Mafia group, applying public official election law for spreading false information. This ruling confirmed that the allegations of a link between Governor Lee and the International Mafia group were legally false.
On the 20th, former Governor Lee Jae-myung demanded that 'Unanswered Questions' disclose its future reports, arguing that the People Power Party, which exposed the manipulation, and the program responsible for the fabricated broadcast need to reflect and apologize.
