People Power Party to Decide Seoul Mayoral Nominee on the 18th
The People Power Party will finalize its candidate for the Seoul mayoral election in the June 3 local elections on the 18th. The three individuals vying for the nomination are incumbent Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, lawmaker Park Soo-min, and former lawmaker Yoon Hee-sook. Lee Sang-gyu, the Seoul Seongbuk-B district chapter chairman, Lee Seung-hyun, CEO of Infac Korea, and Kim Choong-hwan, former Gangdong District Mayor, have been excluded from the primary race. Attention is focused on who will emerge as the final candidate.
The main primary will be conducted with results determined by a 50% public opinion poll and a 50% responsible party member vote. Candidates advancing to the main primary will participate in two debate sessions and will campaign for five days starting next month on the 11th. Following the primary voting period from the 16th to the 17th of next month, the final candidate will be selected on the 18th.
The Nomination Management Committee stated that the candidate selection process is a "judgment to select the most prepared candidate based on competence, not name recognition, and through competition, not just experience." The committee added that it would manage the primary rigorously and fairly to ensure that the will of citizens and party members is fully reflected.
