Hanam Mayor Appeals Budget Cut for Misa Lake Park Project
Hanam Mayor Lee Hyun-jae has revealed his position on the budget allocation for the Misa Lake Park Musical Fountain and Water Quality Improvement Project, which was entirely cut by a city council subcommittee. Mayor Lee described the project as 'essential' for revitalizing the stagnant Misa commercial district and securing the city's competitiveness.
The total project cost for the Misa Lake Park Musical Fountain and Water Quality Improvement Project is 5.8 billion won, with 2.2 billion won secured to date. The city sought to allocate the remaining funds in the current supplementary budget to ensure timely project execution but encountered difficulties due to delays in securing additional national and provincial funding amid changing external circumstances.
This project aims beyond simple landscape improvement to achieve cost savings in maintaining aging facilities, improve water quality, and revitalize commercial areas through increased visitor traffic. Mayor Lee warned that delaying the decision would result in greater costs and lost opportunities, urging the city council to reconsider the matter based on citizens' quality of life and regional sustainability, rather than political disputes.
