Lawmaker Park Chung-kwon's Assets Skyrocket 60-Fold in One Year

Lawmaker Park Chung-kwon of the People Power Party has seen his assets increase by approximately 60 times in one year, recording the highest growth rate since the disclosure of asset registration information for high-ranking public officials. The assets declared by Park on the 26th of this month amount to 3,383,878,000 won, a figure about 60 times higher than the 55,503,000 won he declared last year while reportedly being without property. The primary reason for this asset growth is the inclusion of real estate owned by his spouse, among other assets, following his marriage in November last year.

The father of Lawmaker Park's spouse is an individual who worked as a 'public security specialist' and 'special prosecutor' during his time in the prosecution service, and the symbolism of a North-South marriage also garnered attention.

According to the asset fluctuation report released by the National Assembly's Public Official Ethics Committee as of December 31, 2025, assets increased for 254 out of 287 lawmakers in the 22nd National Assembly, or 88.5%, compared to one year prior. A total of 47 lawmakers, including 33 from the People Power Party and 14 from the Democratic Party of Korea, own homes in Seoul's Gangnam 3 districts. A total of 52 lawmakers, including 31 from the People Power Party and 20 from the Democratic Party of Korea, were identified as holding multiple homes.
