83-Year-Old Veteran Dies After Being Shoved Onto Subway Tracks; Suspect Arrested
An incident occurred where an 83-year-old war veteran in the New York City subway was shoved onto the tracks, suffering severe injuries and later dying. The incident took place at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street station. Richard Williams was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and underwent surgery, but was later determined to have no brain activity.
His cause of death was ruled a homicide by assault. Richard Williams and John Pena were pushed onto the tracks, with John Pena reportedly helping to pull Richard Williams back onto the platform just before a train entered the station.
In connection with this incident, a foreigner of Honduran nationality was arrested by police on murder charges. The suspect is Bairon Posada-Hernandez, who has a record of 15 prior charges and has reportedly been deported four times previously. The Department of Homeland Security has urged New York City authorities not to release him. Bairon Posada-Hernandez was arrested on March 10, is currently in the custody of the New York Police Department, and judicial proceedings are underway for the murder charges.
