People Power Party Criticizes Leader Lee Jae-myung's Remarks on Cheonan Victims' Families
The People Power Party (PPP) on the 28th urged Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung to demand a clear apology regarding his response to families of the Cheonan sinking victims, who had asked for an apology from North Korea.
In a statement on the 28th, PPP Senior Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon cited a media report that when families of the Cheonan sinking incident requested Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung to 'demand an apology from North Korea' at the 'West Sea Defense Day Ceremony' on the 27th, Lee responded, 'Would North Korea apologize just because we tell them to?'
Park criticized Lee Jae-myung's remarks as trampling on the sacrifice of 46 soldiers and the anguish of their families, pointing out that what the families desired was for the President to demonstrate a minimum level of dignity and resolve in the face of their sons' deaths for the country.
Jang Dong-hyuk, a PPP lawmaker, also referred to the report on his social media on the 28th, retorting to Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, 'Would North Korea do as it's told to have dialogue?'
Song Eon-seok, the PPP floor leader, also criticized on social media, stating that Lee's remarks were a self-negation of the nation's very meaning and questioning if that was what a president should say to families who have been weeping tears of blood for 16 years after losing their loved ones.
