Hong Ui-rak Calls for Joo Ho-young to Run for Daegu Mayor
On the 28th, former Democratic Party lawmaker Hong Ui-rak urged People Power Party lawmaker Joo Ho-young to run in the upcoming June Daegu mayoral election via a Facebook post. Hong argued that Joo must run to hold accountable the entrenched monopolistic structure of a single party in Daegu and the accumulated unchecked power and arrogance that resulted from it.
He stressed that Joo's candidacy would serve as the starting point for a three-way contest, positioning it as a path to establish the narrative of 'rebuilding the shattered conservative camp,' restore the pride of despondent citizens, and revitalize the stalled city.
Political circles suggest that Joo Ho-young might run as an independent depending on the outcome of his injunction filing to suspend the effect of his nomination exclusion. A three-way race is anticipated if former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum enters the race as the Democratic Party candidate.
