Prosecutors Expand 'Suitcase Body' Case Investigation, Form Special Team
The Daegu District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 9th that it has launched an investigation by forming a dedicated team after receiving the case, including charges of parricide, involving suspect Jo Jae-bok and accomplices from the Daegu Bukbu Police Station. This move aims to uncover the truth behind the 'suitcase body case,' where a mother-in-law was allegedly assaulted and killed, and to identify any further charges.
The special investigation team is headed by a chief prosecutor from the violent crimes division, with two prosecutors and four investigators assigned. An additional prosecutor and two investigators from the Women and Children's Crimes Division have also joined the probe. Prosecutors included the latter team members, considering that the case involves not only parricide but also indications of domestic violence.
Jo Jae-bok is accused of assaulting and killing his mother-in-law, then allegedly disposing of the body in a suitcase with his wife, Choi. He also faces charges of alleged confinement and assault against his wife, Choi. Choi is suspected of participating in the disposal of her mother's body.
Previously, the Daegu Bukbu Police Station had sent Jo Jae-bok to the prosecution with charges of parricide, body disposal, assault, and confinement. His wife, identified only as Choi, 20s, was sent to the prosecution on charges of body disposal. Jo Jae-bok appeared at the Daegu District Court on the 2nd for a pre-arrest suspect interrogation.
The prosecution pledges to do its utmost to thoroughly ascertain the full details of the case through rigorous supplementary investigation.
