NATO Envoys Visit South Korea for Security Cooperation Talks
A delegation of resident ambassadors from NATO's 30 member states visited South Korea from the 13th to the 15th, exchanging concerns over the close military ties between North Korea and Russia and regional security issues.
On the 15th, the delegation visited the Joint Security Area (JSA) within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and received a security briefing on North Korea from the Deputy Commander of the United Nations Command (UNC). The briefing discussed the deepening military ties between North Korea and Russia and North Korea's support for the war in Ukraine.
The delegation visited the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 14th and paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun-woong and other officials. Views were exchanged on defense industry cooperation between South Korea and NATO, as well as the regional situation including the Korean Peninsula.
Both sides agreed on the need to strengthen security linkages between the Indo-Pacific and the Europe-Atlantic regions. They also agreed to expand cooperation into new areas such as space and innovative technologies, and during their visit, they toured South Korean defense industry sites to witness the companies' advanced technological capabilities.
