Yoo Seong-min Considers Running If Party Asks, Hinting at Political Comeback

Amid projections that the upcoming National Assembly by-elections, scheduled concurrently with the nationwide local elections on June 3, could extend to as many as 14 seats, speculation is mounting regarding former lawmaker Yoo Seong-min's potential return through these by-elections.

In a phone call with Segye Ilbo on the 15th, Yoo's camp stated regarding the Hanam Gap by-election, which would be held if Representative Choo Mi-ae resigns, "If the party requests my candidacy, I will seriously consider it." This represents a change in stance, as he previously declined a request to run for Gyeonggi Province governor.

The People Power Party expressed the view that Yoo's participation could aid in securing victories in the local elections in the Seoul metropolitan area. Senior spokesperson Park Sung-hoon added, "While Yoo Seong-min is an excellent candidate, there are also party members who have cultivated their local constituencies," emphasizing that the nomination committee's judgment would be necessary.
