EV Charging Fees to Become Cheaper During the Day, More Expensive in the Evening

EV drivers will need to pay closer attention to their charging schedules. Starting from the 16th, EV charging fees have been adjusted to be cheaper during daytime hours and more expensive during the evening, when electricity demand is high. This change is part of a new tariff system designed to alleviate grid strain and improve energy efficiency.

The revised plan prioritizes lowering daytime charging costs, taking into account the increased electricity supply from solar power. From March to October 2024, on weekdays during spring, summer, and fall, rates will be reduced between 11 AM and 12 PM, and again from 1 PM to 3 PM. Conversely, charges from 6 PM to 9 PM will be raised. During spring and fall (March-May and September-October), charging on weekends and public holidays between 11 AM and 2 PM will see a discount of up to 15%.

This pricing scheme will be applied to public fast chargers and self-consumption chargers managed by the government and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Charging stations in apartment complexes may have different pricing depending on whether they are operated by private entities.
