Busan Police Investigate Foreigner's Sexual Assault Allegations in Lodging
Police are investigating the facts after a Chinese tourist claimed she was sexually assaulted by a Japanese man at a lodging in Busan. The allegation, posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo on the 17th, spread rapidly, garnering over 30 million views. Chinese woman A, who made the post, stated the incident occurred in Korea. In her message, A described being harassed and insulted by a Japanese man, identified as B, while staying at a guesthouse in Busan. She claimed she woke up to find B touching her body, and that when she shone a flashlight, he had urinated on her, her bed, and her belongings.
The Busanjin Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway following the reported incident. Regarding allegations that the police initially refused to accept the report and suggested a personal reconciliation, a police official refuted these claims. The official explained that officers immediately responded to the scene upon receiving the report and took necessary actions, only providing guidance on compensation procedures for property contamination and not suggesting any personal reconciliation. Police are investigating the precise facts of the case, including whether B's actions constitute sexual assault. Police have requested B, who has since left the country, to appear for questioning, and he has reportedly expressed his intention to do so.
