Trump Escalates Tensions with Seizure of Iranian Cargo Ship

US President Donald Trump announced on the 19th (local time) that an Iranian cargo ship named 'Tusca', which attempted to breach the US maritime blockade against Iran, had been seized. President Trump stated via his social media 'Truth Social' on the same day that the Iranian cargo ship named 'Tusca' attempted to breach the US maritime blockade but failed. He explained that the US Navy destroyer Spruance issued warnings to stop 'Tusca' in the Gulf of Oman, but when it did not comply, the warship fired into the ship's engine room to disable it. President Trump said US Marines have boarded and are investigating the vessel. The ship attacked by the US forces was en route from China to Iran.

Iranian state television and other outlets reported that Iran warned of retaliation, calling the US military's firing on an Iranian merchant ship a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
