Google Cloud CEO Assures Data Safety Amid Data Center Threats
Data centers are secure, even in the face of threats. Regarding data centers becoming targets of airstrikes during the US-Iran conflict, the CEO of Google Cloud revealed that customer data will remain safe even if data centers face physical attacks. At the 'Google Cloud Next' press conference, CEO Thomas Kurian emphasized that Google can protect customer data safely by possessing the capability to replicate data worldwide, even in situations affecting data centers. He added that Google has handled such capabilities in various conflict zones and supports customers by enabling them to use services regardless of which Google facility they choose globally.
CEO Kurian also highlighted the company's capabilities in responding to attempts to steal AI technology. In relation to accusations that some Chinese companies are attempting to steal technology using a technique called 'distillation,' which involves training new models by utilizing the responses of AI models, he stated, "Google's 'Vertex' platform has controls in place to detect when a user is attempting model distillation, and we know how to handle it."
Google also unveiled specific new initiatives aimed at strengthening security. Following its recent acquisition of cybersecurity firm Wiz to counter AI-driven security threats, the company plans to officially launch 'Codemender' next week, an AI model that automatically analyzes and helps fix code vulnerabilities. Additionally, it announced that it can prioritize threats requiring defense by leveraging 'Dark Web Intelligence.'
