Iran's Parliament Speaker Denies Report of Resigning as US Negotiator
Iran's Parliament has asserted that reports claiming Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, has stepped down from his role as the chief negotiator with the United States are baseless. Iran's parliamentary media outlet ICANA reported on the 24th (local time), citing Iman Shamsaei, head of the parliament's center for foreign relations, media, and cultural affairs, that the rumors of Ghalibaf's resignation were 'fake news.'
Shamsaei added that Ghalibaf has not resigned from any position, and the role of chief negotiator itself is unclear as no new schedule for negotiations with the U.S. has been set. Previously, Israeli Channel 12 and the UK-based anti-government media Iran International had reported that Ghalibaf had stepped down from his position as head of the negotiating team amid internal disagreements and pressure within Iran.
