Tim Cook Warns of Chip Shortage, Forcing Memory Makers to Revise Earnings Outlooks
Apple CEO Tim Cook has warned of a severe shortage of memory semiconductors driven by the expansion of AI-based services, stating that related companies will need to revise their earnings outlooks.
Memory manufacturers such as Micron, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix are increasing production capacity. However, soaring demand for AI chips and data centers is making it difficult to secure memory for PCs and smartphones, leading to price increases.
Amidst this scarcity, the stock prices of memory semiconductor companies surged on the Nasdaq market on May 1st (local time). Micron Technology rose 4.84%, while SanDisk jumped more than 8%.
