90% of Children's Day Toys Made of Plastic Have 0% Recycling Rate
Ninety percent of toys worldwide are made of plastic, and their recycling rate is virtually zero. Consequently, most are sent to landfills or incinerated. Lee Yoon-hee, vice director of the Climate Change Action Research Institute, pointed out the reality of toys, the top gift for Family Month, being so popular.
As an alternative, the resale of used toys has been proposed. The practice is encouraged by mentioning that many toys are only unboxed but not used, and that they can be purchased at half the price of new products.
During the May Golden Week holiday, the carbon footprint from domestic travel is projected to increase by approximately 156,000 tons, while the carbon footprint from international travel (via air) is expected to rise by about 93,000 tons. Personal carbon consumption plans can offset May's excess emissions in the latter half of the year. However, personal carbon expenditure planning is hindered by the lack of a 'carbon household ledger' feature that allows citizens to specifically predict and plan their carbon spending. Individual carbon expenditure planning becomes feasible when various actionable alternatives are presented.
