Man in 60s Sentenced to 14 Months for Targeting Empty Homes During Weddings
A man in his 60s who planned burglaries by reading wedding announcements in local newspapers has received a prison sentence.
Mr. A (67) targeted local figures whose children's weddings were featured in regional newspapers. He would find the homeowner's address from the newspaper announcement and then commit burglaries by stealing cash and valuables when the house was empty on the wedding day.
Over five years, he committed eight crimes, stealing approximately 90 million won worth of goods.
The Chuncheon District Court sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of theft and trespassing, to 1 year and 2 months in prison. Presiding Judge Jung stated that although Mr. A's admission of guilt and lack of prior convictions were considered, the sentence was determined due to the severe nature of his crimes, which involved stealing a significant amount exceeding 90 million won through planned and repeated burglaries.
