People Power Party Demands Dismissal of Kim Yong-beom, Emergency Arbitration for Samsung Strike

The People Power Party has demanded the immediate dismissal of Presidential Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom and the government's invocation of emergency arbitration for the Samsung Electronics strike, citing his remarks on an 'AI universal basic income' program.

In a Facebook post, PPP Floor Leader Song On-seok claimed that Kim's statements have caused South Korea to fall from being a 'top semiconductor nation' to a country with 'anti-market populist risks,' and that the semiconductor industry and capital market cannot be protected with an economic philosophy that attempts to 'grab a share' of corporate profits.

Seoul Mayor candidate Oh Se-hoon criticized the idea of returning semiconductor profits and utilizing excess tax revenue on Facebook on the 13th, arguing it is an attempt to politically exploit corporate performance and urged Kim Yong-beom's immediate dismissal in connection with the controversy over his remarks. Co-chairperson of the Election Committee Yoon Hee-suk pointed out in a statement that the notion of returning semiconductor profits to the public is an attempt to extract corporate earnings, indicating a widening economic policy clash between the ruling and opposition parties.
