By-Election Registration Opens: 11 Candidates Report Criminal Records
Of the 34 candidates who completed registration by 9 PM on May 14, the first day for the National Assembly by-elections, 11 (32.4%) were found to have criminal records. These by-elections are being held concurrently with the local elections on June 3.
Candidates with criminal records include four from the Democratic Party and two from the Progressive Party. Democratic Party candidate Lee Kwang-jae (Hanam Gap, Gyeonggi Province) reported four criminal convictions, while candidates Song Young-gil, Kim Ui-gyeom, and Park Hyung-ryong also reported criminal records.
Progressive Party candidate Jeon Ju-yeon (Dalseong, Daegu) reported five criminal convictions, and candidate Kim Jae-yeon also has a criminal record.
