Gwangju High School Girl Murder Suspect Jang Yun-gi Transferred to Prosecution
Jang Yun-gi (23), who is facing charges of murder and attempted murder, was transferred to the prosecution on the morning of the 14th from Gwangju Seobu Police Station. Police proceeded with the process of sending the suspect, whose investigation was complete, to the prosecution for trial.
According to the police investigation, Jang Yun-gi had prepared to commit the crime with the intent to murder a foreign woman in her 20s, identified as Ms. C, who was his co-worker at a part-time job. He harbored resentment after Ms. C reported him to the police as a stalker two days before the crime, on the 3rd.
Unable to find Ms. C, Jang Yun-gi wandered the streets for two days before selecting a second-year high school student, Ms. A (17), as his target while she was returning home, and fatally stabbed her. He also swung a weapon at a male student, Mr. B (17), who was passing by and attempted to help, injuring him.
Police have classified this incident not as a 'random crime' targeting the general public, but as an 'anger crime' where a specific target existed, but the perpetrator shifted to another victim. Evidence of planning, including the preparation of a weapon before the crime and attempts to destroy evidence, has been uncovered.
