May 18 Foundation Urges Opposition to Park Duk-hum's Vice Speaker Nomination

The May 18 Memorial Foundation and civic organizations related to the May 18 Democratization Movement issued a joint statement on the 19th, opposing the nomination of Rep. Park Duk-hum of the People Power Party as a candidate for the second half of the National Assembly Vice Speaker, and urging lawmakers to cast dissenting votes.

In their statement, these groups characterized Rep. Park as a 'clear accomplice to sedition for condoning illegal martial law and opposing impeachment,' arguing that his nomination was merely the choice of a specific party and could not represent the entire National Assembly.

Furthermore, they called on all members of the 22nd National Assembly to remember the history of the people who prevented the suspension of the constitution by resisting illegal martial law, and urged them to fulfill their solemn responsibility and mission as representatives of the people by casting dissenting votes against Rep. Park in the Vice Speaker election.
