Ministry of Unification: 'Two-State Theory' is Coexistence Strategy, Not State Recognition for North Korea

The Ministry of Unification stated that the 'peaceful two-state theory' is a strategy aimed at achieving the government's policy goal of peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula, and does not constitute legal recognition of North Korea as a state.

An official from the Ministry of Unification initially commented on the morning of the 19th that the 'peaceful two-state theory' was a concept conceived by Unification Minister Chung Dong-young and not the government's overall stance. However, on the same day in the afternoon, through a statement,

the ministry reversed its position, emphasizing that it is a strategy to achieve the government's official North Korea policy, the 'Korean Peninsula Peaceful Coexistence Policy,' thereby clarifying that it aligns with the government's overall stance.
