Kakao and Google DeepMind Enhance AI Content Transparency

Kakao has joined forces with Google DeepMind to sign a technology partnership aimed at enhancing the transparency of AI-generated content. Through this collaboration, Kakao will be the first Asian company to adopt Google DeepMind's 'SynthID' technology within its proprietary AI model, 'Kanana.'

This technology helps clarify the origin of AI-created content by embedding imperceptible markings. 'SynthID' is a technology that inserts subtle digital watermarks into content, undetectable by the human eye or ear, to trace whether it was AI-generated. This provides a safeguard against the misuse of AI, such as deepfakes.

Kakao plans to gradually apply this technology starting in the second half of this year to its image model 'Kanana Collage' and video model 'Kanana Kinema,' with an initial rollout planned for the 'Kanana Template' feature in KakaoTalk.

Kakao CEO Shin Dong-a stated that the company will continue to pursue responsible AI technology collaborations to provide services that users can trust.
