Former Anchor Cho Soo-bin Criticizes Election Commission Over Voting Paper Shortage
Former KBS anchor Cho Soo-bin has voiced criticism regarding the recent controversies surrounding the Central Election Management Committee (Cemec), specifically the shortage of voting papers and employee leave issues. The situation is drawing attention by raising questions about the credibility of election preparation and operation. Cho Soo-bin expressed her opinion on her social media, stating that the Cemec "must be pulverized, not just disbanded," and pointed out, "Does it make sense that they spend hundreds of billions of won in budget yet have no money for paper?"
The Central Election Management Committee became controversial during the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections held on the 3rd due to a shortage of voting papers at some polling stations. The controversy over mismanagement continued as it was revealed that a number of employees were on leave leading up to the election.
On the 5th, Cemec Chairman Noh Tae-ak expressed his resignation, stating, "I feel deeply ashamed and immensely responsible for the damage to public trust and distrust in election management."
Meanwhile, former anchor Cho Soo-bin recalled her past experience participating in the Cemec's fair election promotion activities, having served as an ambassador for the committee alongside main anchors from the three major broadcasters in 2011 while working as a KBS anchor. While some citizens criticized the election management issues, there were also responses suggesting that expressions like "disbanded" or "pulverized" were excessively radical and that the emotional language was regrettable.
