Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon Calls for Securing 'Nuclear Deterrence Potential' Against North Korea's Nuclear Threats
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has argued that South Korea should possess the potential to use nuclear weapons in response to North Korea's development of nuclear arms.
In his congratulatory remarks at the '2026 Korean Peninsula Symposium' held on the 26th, Mayor Oh emphasized that revising national security strategies is an urgent task in the face of North Korea's continuous advancement of its nuclear capabilities and its threats to South Korea.
This is interpreted to mean that South Korea needs to acquire the technologies necessary for nuclear weapons development, such as reprocessing nuclear fuel or enriching uranium like Japan, to counter North Korea's nuclear attack threats.
