Elderly Man Attacks with Knife at Gwanghwamun Art Museum; Police Seek Arrest Warrant

A man in his 70s wielded a knife and injured a man in his 40s at the Ilmin Museum of Art in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Police announced today (27th) that they have applied for an arrest warrant for the man, identified as A, in his 70s, on charges of attempted murder and preparation for arson in relation to the incident that occurred inside the museum yesterday (26th). Oil containers, believed to have been discarded by A at the scene, were discovered.

The victim underwent surgery to close the wound on his arm, but his life is not in danger. A fled the scene immediately after the crime, reportedly using a taxi and passing through areas like Samgakji. However, he was apprehended 10 hours after the incident at the residence of an acquaintance in Gwanak-gu, Seoul. Police are investigating A to determine the exact motive and details of the crime.
