Startup Offers Breakthrough for LLMs Stuck in Predictable Answers
There are criticisms that LLMs are falling into 'groupthink,' producing only predictable answers. While existing LLMs excel at coding and information retrieval, they have been evaluated as lacking creativity in brainstorming or new project planning stages due to their predictable responses. For example, when asked to 'give me one random number between 1 and 10,' many LLMs frequently output '7.'
To overcome this predictability issue with LLMs, Australian startup Springboards has developed and introduced a new LLM called 'Flint.' Flint has been trained to generate a much wider variety of responses to open-ended questions compared to conventional LLMs. Pip Bingemann, co-founder and CEO of Springboards, explained Flint's differentiation by stating, 'Most language models fight hallucinations, but we welcome them.'
Pip Bingemann cited an example where ChatGPT and Claude, when asked to 'Create a slogan for a New Balance running shoe campaign. Just the slogan,' both produced the same slogan: 'Run your way.' In contrast, Flint offered the slogan 'Built to last, run to win.' This demonstrates Flint's ability to move beyond the 'groupthink' of existing LLMs and provide novel and diverse ideas.
