Anthropic in Talks with Samsung Electronics on AI Chip Production

Anthropic, the developer of AI model 'Claude', is reportedly in discussions with Samsung Electronics about collaborating on AI chip production. IT publication The Information reported, citing multiple sources, that Anthropic has entered the early stages of AI chip development and is in contact with Samsung Electronics as a potential manufacturing partner. Anthropic is considering the use of Samsung Electronics' cutting-edge 2-nanometer (nm) manufacturing process and advanced semiconductor packaging technologies. The 2nm process is a technology that makes semiconductor circuits smaller for more efficient power usage, while advanced packaging is a technology that increases data transfer speeds within chips, reducing performance degradation factors.

In May, during its fundraising process, Anthropic referred to Samsung Electronics as a 'strategic infrastructure partner', indicating its expectations for Samsung Electronics' logic chip manufacturing capabilities. Among the top three memory manufacturers, Samsung Electronics is the only one with a foundry division capable of producing logic chips. If Samsung Electronics secures Anthropic's AI chip production, it would gain a new major client after Tesla, Nvidia, and Apple. If this collaboration materializes, it could bring about a shift in the AI chip market landscape.

Meanwhile, in response to a request for comment, Anthropic emphasized the role of existing AI computing resources and avoided specific remarks about future plans.
