Trump: 'Deal with Iran possible...Negotiations underway' vs. Iran: 'We have not requested talks'

U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that negotiations with Iran are underway and that a deal is possible. President Trump claimed that friendly negotiations are taking place during a visit to Michigan and a General Motors event. Conversely, the Iranian side refuted this, stating that negotiations with the U.S. are not underway and that they have never requested to resume talks. The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that it is not involved in any negotiations with the U.S. and has not requested the U.S. side to resume talks. Furthermore, they drew a line regarding discussions with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz transit issue, stating that the U.S. is not involved and that a mediator delivering a message from the U.S. cannot be considered a negotiation.

President Trump assessed his relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as overall similar despite some differences. While referring to Israel as a country that would not survive without the U.S., he also praised Turkey as a wonderful ally.

Experts analyze that the current divergence in positions between the U.S. and Iran could affect the security of the entire Middle East. If the two nations reduce tensions through dialogue, positive effects such as lower oil prices and stable energy supplies could emerge.
