Police to Ban Investigations Involving Family Members Starting September... 117 'Internal Cases' Revealed

The police will introduce a system in September preventing officers from directly investigating cases involving their own family members. The National Police Agency announced on the 7th that the 'recusal system'—where cases involving family members are transferred to other police stations—will be implemented starting early September.

According to an investigation by the police, 117 cases involving family members were identified last month as being in progress or concluded. The police revealed that they had not previously accumulated or managed separate data on family-related cases.

The number of recusal or回避 requests filed by officers stood at 77 over the past six years and six months, which is fewer than the 117 cases confirmed through the comprehensive investigation.
