Woori Bank and NH NongHyup Bank Also Hit by Hacking Attempts
Woori Bank and NH NongHyup Bank were also targeted by hacking attempts. On the 2nd, attack attempts presumed to be external hacking were confirmed at both banks, following similar incidents at Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, and Hana Bank. However, neither bank reported any actual damage, such as customer data leaks.
Previously, a series of external hacking attempts had been confirmed at three major banks — Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, and Hana Bank. The incidents at Woori Bank and NH NongHyup Bank were identified amid this continuing wave of hacking attempts targeting the financial sector.
That afternoon, the Financial Services Commission held an emergency response meeting for the financial industry, presided over by Deputy Chief Shin Jin-chang, and ordered financial companies to inspect security vulnerabilities and access control status of systems accessible from external networks.
