North Korea Fires Missile into East Sea a Day After Dismissing Kim Yo-jong's Dialogue Remarks
North Korea fired a ballistic missile (a missile that flies like a rocket and falls by gravity) into the East Sea from the Wonsan area at around 6:30 a.m. on the 3rd, the day after Kim Yo-jong's remarks on inter-Korean dialogue were dismissed. The launch came just one day after Kim Yo-jong, head of the General Affairs Department of the Workers' Party, denounced President Lee Jae-myung's call for the restoration of inter-Korean dialogue as "the height of a farce."
The National Security Office convened an emergency security situation review meeting immediately after the missile launch, attended by the Defense Ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, among others. The office stated that North Korea's repeated ballistic missile launches violate UN Security Council resolutions and urged an immediate halt.
The presidential office pointed out that Kim Yo-jong's abusive rhetoric does not help build mutual trust.
