Kim Yo-jong Claims South Korea and Japan Cannot Intercept AI Missile Strike

Kim Yo-jong, department director of the Workers' Party of Korea, claimed in a statement released by the Korean Central News Agency on the 3rd that there is effectively no way to evade a strike by artificial intelligence (AI)-based missiles. Director Kim argued, "It is worth recalling our announcements that we have the capability to change flight trajectories at low altitude and have adopted artificial intelligence," adding, "In other words, this means there is virtually no way to evade this strike."

Through the KCNA statement, Director Kim said a strategic weapons launch drill was conducted early that day over the East Sea with Kim Jong-un, chairman of the State Affairs Commission, observing, and that a medium-range strategic missile was used in the drill. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced the missile flew more than 700 km, while Japan's Ministry of Defense said it flew approximately 680 km. However, North Korea did not disclose the actual flight distance or the specific missile model.

Director Kim argued that the flight distance figures of the North Korean ballistic missile announced by the South Korean and Japanese military authorities demonstrate the limits of the two countries' missile detection capabilities. She said these figures allow an estimate of the limitations of their detection capabilities, claiming, "Each time the wave-like flight trajectory method was applied, the enemies lost track of the target after the first apogee." Her claim was that the missile changed course, descending and then ascending again, and that South Korea and Japan missed this and estimated the flight distance based only on the previously observed descending trajectory—thus asserting the limitations of both countries' detection capabilities.

She also said the Missile General Administration reported to Chairman Kim a technology capable of setting at least four different flight trajectories depending on the purpose and target. She said Chairman Kim was certain that no other country would possess this technology for years to come.
