Eye Contact at Park Chung-hee Memorial… Oh Se-hoon, with Jang Dong-hyuk Two Seats Away
A memorial ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the death of former President Park Chung-hee was held on the 26th at the burial grounds of the Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak District, Seoul. The event was attended by bereaved family members including former Yukyoung Foundation Chairwoman Park Geun-ryeong, as well as People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk, floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik, Secretary-General Jeong Hui-yong, Policy Committee Chairwoman Lim I-ja, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, and Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kwon O-eul — one of the largest gatherings of political leadership in the memorial's history.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon sat side by side with Park Geun-ryeong, the former president's second daughter and former Yukyoung Foundation chairwoman, chatting with her, while People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk sat two seats away.
Memorial eulogies were delivered by Reps. Lee Jin-sook and Na Kyung-won, along with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. Leader Jang did not give a eulogy. After former Chairwoman Park finished her address on behalf of the bereaved family, she personally asked Jang to deliver a eulogy, but he declined, instead honoring the occasion by offering incense at the grave. After paying his respects, Jang wrote in the guestbook: 'With the spirit of Park Chung-hee, building a new Republic of Korea for my lifelong devotion to the nation and its people.'
