Oh Se-hoon Delivers First Memorial Address at Park Chung-hee Tribute Ceremony, Then Attends String of People Power Party Dinners
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon delivered the memorial address for the first time at a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the death of former President Park Chung-hee, held at the Seoul National Cemetery on the 26th, and then met with People Power Party lawmakers for a series of dinner gatherings the same day.
The 'Memorial Ceremony for the 47th Anniversary of Former President Park Chung-hee's Death,' held at 11 a.m. on the 26th at the Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, was attended by 15 People Power Party lawmakers, including party leadership such as party leader Jang Dong-hyuk and floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik, as well as Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. Hwang Kyo-an, leader of the Liberty and Innovation Party, and Jeon Han-gil were also present. Oh has attended the memorial ceremony since 2023, but this was the first time he delivered the memorial address.
In his memorial address at the ceremony, Oh said, "Along with the spirit of Park Chung-hee, I once again engrave in my heart the historic responsibility," adding, "I will faithfully fulfill my duties and responsibilities so that as South Korea grows ever more prosperous, the quality of life for its people improves all the more."
During the ceremony, when Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kwon Oh-eul was delivering his memorial address, some attendees shouted at him to "stop" and "step down," and hurled profanities.
That evening, Oh had dinner with eight People Power Party lawmakers — Kim Mi-ae, Kim Seok-ki, Shin Sung-bum, Lee Man-hee, Lee Sang-hwi, Yoon Sang-hyun, Cho Eun-hee, and Cho Jung-hun — as well as Lee Jun-seok of the Reform Party. These were among those who showed support for Oh at the Seoul Central District Court during his appeal verdict on the 23rd.
Mayor Oh plans to hold another dinner on the 27th with lawmakers who were unable to attend the gatherings on the 26th.
