Lee Jae-myung and Trump agree on $200 billion investment in the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung agreed at their summit to launch new investments in the United States worth $200 billion (about 280 trillion won). In a post on Truth Social on Sept. 30 (local time), Trump claimed the agreement was reached during the South Korea–U.S. summit with President Lee, who visited New York on Aug. 22 to attend the U.N. General Assembly. At the time, the White House said only that the two leaders had discussed a range of issues.
The Korean investment projects in the U.S. that Trump formally announced at a White House event that day include the $120 billion construction of eight U.S. nuclear power plants, a $50 billion Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, and a $22 billion gas-fired power plant project in Texas.
On the Alaska LNG project, Trump wrote, "The United States and Korea have agreed to begin cooperation on a $50 billion Alaska LNG project." This differed from the wording of the two countries' joint fact sheet, which said they had agreed to "begin a review" of the project, underscoring a clear gap between the two sides.
