US State Department Summons Iraqi Ambassador, Condemns Attack on Diplomatic Facilities

In connection with the attack on US diplomatic facilities in Baghdad by Iran-backed militias on the 8th, the US State Department summoned the Iraqi ambassador to the US on the 9th to condemn the incident. In a statement, the State Department noted that the attack occurred following hundreds of assaults in recent weeks targeting US citizens, diplomatic facilities, commercial interests, Iraq's neighbors, and institutions and civilians within Iraq.

Christopher Landers, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, while acknowledging the efforts of Iraqi security forces to respond, pointed out the Iraqi government's failure to prevent the attacks. He warned that some elements linked to the Iraqi government continue to provide political, financial, and operational protection to militias. Landers urged the Iraqi side to take immediate measures to dismantle Iran-backed militias, adding that failure to implement such measures could negatively impact US-Iraqi relations.

The US Embassy in Baghdad warned of the possibility of further attacks by Iran-linked groups and requested information on the relevant militias and those involved in the attacks.
