The National Assembly's Special Committee on 'Allegations of Manipulative Indictments by Political Prosecutors' held hearings on April 16 regarding the Daejangdong and Wirye New Town cases, and the case of former Democratic Party Research Institute Vice President Kim Yong. The hearings were held under the pretext of investigating allegations of manipulative indictments by the prosecution, with the Special Committee for National Audit and Investigation conducting the probe. Prosecutors Um Hee-jun and Kang Baek-shin, along with lawyer Nam Wook, who is involved in the Daejangdong case, appeared as witnesses. However, Kim Man-bae and Jeong Young-hak submitted letters stating their reasons for absence.

Kim Yong, former vice president of the Democratic Party Research Institute, was sentenced to five years in prison in the second trial for allegedly receiving bribes from Daejangdong developers and has been released on bail.

The Democratic Party of Korea stated its goal was to uncover allegations of manipulative indictments by the prosecution. The People Power Party opposed this, calling it an attempt to cover up allegations of presidential wrongdoing.

In a previous hearing on the 14th, the special committee addressed issues related to alleged government intervention and prosecution attempts to coax testimony in the Ssangbangul North Korea remittance case.
