Staff Smoking Room Next to School Cafeteria Features 'Cigarette Butt Cups'
The staff smoking room, operated right next to the school cafeteria in a location that could disrupt students' meals, was finally closed early this month following complaints from students. The smoking room was situated between the cafeteria and the convenience store, in an area with frequent student traffic, and contained paper cups filled with cigarette butts and ash on its tables.
Equipped even with an electric kettle, the room had been used by staff until recently, with students complaining of suffering from the smoke that leaked out.
Following the complaints, the school closed the space, designated it as a no-smoking zone, and pledged to prevent recurrence. The Jeonnam Office of Education announced plans to strengthen education and outreach for staff. The Suncheon City Health Center confirmed that the facility met installation standards, being located more than 10 meters from the entrance, but has announced ongoing inspections.
