Pope denies 'tyrant' remarks were aimed at Trump
The Pope has stated that his recent remarks, "a handful of tyrants are ravaging the world," were not aimed at US President Donald Trump. Speaking to reporters on a flight to Angola during his Africa tour, the Pope added that media reports on the remarks were inaccurate and that the speech containing these comments had been prepared two weeks prior.
US Vice President JD Vance expressed gratitude for the Pope's clear statement. Vance commented via social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that while the media often amplifies conflict, reality is more complex.
Last Thursday, during a speech in Cameroon, the Pope said, "We must take a decisive turn, through a true conversion, towards a sustainable path, a path full of human brotherhood." He warned, "The world is being devastated by a handful of tyrants, but it is sustained by the multitude of supporting brothers and sisters," adding, "Woe to those who manipulate religion and the name of God for military, economic, or political gain."
