Rival Parties Clash Over Parliamentary Probe into Alleged 'Fabricated Charges by Politicized Prosecutors'
Clashes between the ruling and opposition parties have intensified as the special committee for a parliamentary investigation into 'fabricated charges by politicized prosecutors' pushed ahead with on-site inspections of the Board of Audit and Inspection and the Financial Supervisory Service, and the summoning of 17 prosecutors from the 'Daejang-dong investigation team' for a hearing.
The special committee resolved on the 23rd to conduct on-site inspections of the Board of Audit and Inspection and the Financial Supervisory Service. The Democratic Party plans to verify on-site whether the Board of Audit and Inspection's forensic methods for public officials were unlawful and to investigate suspicions that the Financial Supervisory Service covered up the alleged stock manipulation involving Ssangbangwool. The resolution for the on-site inspection was passed under the leadership of the Democratic Party, despite opposition from the People Power Party members.
Furthermore, the special committee resolved to summon 17 incumbent prosecutors, including Um Hee-jun and Kang Baek-shin, who belonged to the second 'Daejang-dong investigation team,' as witnesses for a hearing on the 28th. In response, the People Power Party protested, stating it amounted to 'suppressing and coercing prosecutors who followed law and principles.' The People Power Party also criticized the resolution for on-site inspections as a 'means to present false claims as if they were real.'
