Kim Yong's By-election Candidacy Faces Internal Resistance
Jo Seung-rae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, stated on the 22nd that regarding former Democratic Institute Vice President Kim Yong's possibility of running in the by-elections, "It seems opinions leaning towards negative aspects rather than positive ones are stronger."
Appearing on CBS Radio's 'Park Sung-tae's News Show,' Jo stated, "We are currently evaluating that," when asked about the impact of Kim's nomination on other by-election races.
Regarding the party's sentiment, he conveyed, "There are voices calling for political consideration as he is a victim of politically motivated prosecution, while others argue it is inappropriate from a public perspective."
Kim has been sentenced to five years in prison in the first and second trials on charges of receiving bribes related to the Daejang-dong case. He maintains his innocence and has expressed his intention to run in the June 3rd by-elections.
Jo suggested that a comprehensive review is underway, noting, "Even if there is a possibility of winning in an individual constituency, if nominating that person negatively impacts other elections, it is not a viable option."
