June 3 Local Election Polls: PPP Leads in Gyeongbuk, Bu-Ul-Gyeong Remains Tight Race

In the 13 metropolitan mayoral races confirmed for the June 3 local elections, Democratic Party candidates are leading against their People Power Party (PPP) counterparts in all regions except Gyeongsangbuk-do (North Gyeongsang Province), according to recent opinion polls. With just over 30 days until election day, Democratic Party candidates are showing an advantage particularly in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region.

In Ulsan, Democratic Party candidate Kim Sang-wook and PPP candidate Kim Du-gyeom are locked in a tight race within the margin of error. This poll was conducted for STI from April 17-18 among 1,001 men and women aged 18 and over in the Ulsan region. In Busan, Democratic Party candidate Jeon Jae-soo leads PPP candidate Park Hyung-joon. In Gyeongnam, Democratic Party candidate Kim Gyeong-su holds a lead over PPP candidate Park Wan-soo, outside the margin of error.

In Seoul, Democratic Party candidate Jung Won-o leads PPP candidate Oh Se-hoon by more than 10 percentage points. In Incheon, Democratic Party candidate Park Chan-dae leads PPP candidate Yoo Jeong-bok. Democratic Party candidates also show leads outside the margin of error in the Chungcheong region (South Chungcheong, Daejeon, Sejong), as well as in Gangwon and Jeju. The Jeju poll was commissioned by Hankook Research and conducted among 1,000 men and women aged 18 and over residing in Jeju from April 13-14.

Conversely, incumbent Governor Lee Cheol-woo of the People Power Party is leading Democratic Party candidate Oh Jung-gi by a significant margin in Gyeongbuk Province.

The Democratic Party finalized its candidates for metropolitan mayoral races on April 18, with Jeju being the last nomination. The People Power Party is still conducting primaries in some regions. With the election matchups for 13 metropolitan mayoral seats confirmed and less than 30 days remaining until the June 3 local elections, Democratic Party candidates are leading in all regions except Gyeongbuk, with the situation in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region drawing particular attention.
