PGA Tour Faces Criticism From Liberals Over Event at Trump Golf Course
Criticism has emerged from progressive circles in the United States after the PGA Tour announced it would host a tournament at a golf course owned by former President Donald Trump. The PGA Tour is set to hold the fifth of its Signature events, the Cadillac Championship, at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, Florida, in late April. This marks the first time a PGA Tour event will be held at a Trump-owned golf course since 2016.
Following the release of the tournament's participant list, a post including former President Donald Trump's name appeared on the PGA Tour's communications X account, drawing critical reactions from some netizens. Trump National Doral Golf Club is owned by the former president, with the Trump Organization acquiring the property for $150 million in 2012. The fact that the property is owned by an organization tied to a former U.S. president was a factor in the reactions to the event's location.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has been listed among the participants for this year's Cadillac Championship. However, several star players, including Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Ludvig Aberg, have decided to skip the event. The Truist Championship, scheduled for the following week, will be the sixth Signature event of the year, immediately followed by the PGA Championship, signaling a series of major PGA Tour events.
